About Me

I am Emilie, mom, wife, teacher, daughter, sister, writer, thinker, reader, worrier, runner. In no particular order.

When I'm not at work as a high school English teacher, I aim to be outside or in the kitchen cooking and baking, and always with my kids. I love everything about parenting except for the sibling rivalry parts, and I love everything about living in Maine except for the March part.

While I have now lived in Maine longer than anywhere else, I am a Michigan girl who also spent four amazing years living in San Francisco. I have a degree in English from the University of Michigan, and two graduate degrees in Education from the University of Maine.

I am married to the best man I've ever met. When I married Tim, I got to become step mom to two amazing humans, Hillary and Ellis. They are heroes to my two kids, Skyler and Reed.  I love the Red Sox, farmers markets, swimming, smoothies, Nutella, good beer, running, baking, riding my bike, singing in the car with my kids, living near an ocean, climbing mountains, taking photos, and writing about my life. My idea of a great weekend is a long run and a huge meal.                                                                                                                                                                 Life is surprising and wonderful, and full of hard stuff and good stuff. Making connections with readers is completely self-propelling and makes me want to write more and more; I write for the joy that it brings me, I write for other runners and mamas and divorcees and parents who share custody and happy people and healthy eaters and most of all, for my family.

Here, I chronicle the triumphs and pitfalls of parenting growing children while teaching full time, writing, training for marathons or triathlons, trying to put healthy meals on the table, and breathing deeply through life's adversities. I believe in the power of home, good food, fresh air, challenging goals, and the stories that weave these all together. I also take a lot of photos and post them on instagram, so follow me there, too: emiliethrock

Thanks for reading.  xo
